Today, we have a simple process for making your own spice, DIY Turmeric Powder-From Plant to Kitchen. Not far from our farm, there is a nice, local, natural Turmeric farm, Bloodfire Orchards LLC. We are trying to grow more and more of the foods, herbs, and spices that we use daily. A couple of years ago, we went and got some Turmeric tubers and mother plants from the Turmeric farm to start our own. So we have now added Turmeric to our herb garden. And today, we will show you how to make your own Turmeric powder.

If you are interested in a nice, local, natural Turmeric farm, check out Bloodfire Orchards LLC. You can go see the farm for yourself, or you can buy online.

DIY Turmeric Powder-From Plant to Kitchen is our process from the plants in the garden to the powder in the pantry. We have the plants, so we will show you the whole process, but do not be discouraged if you do not have plants. If you do not have to have the plants yourself, you can buy organic Turmeric and process it yourself.

To make DIY Turmeric Powder-From Plant to Kitchen:

1. Harvest the Turmeric root.

Again, you can grow it yourself or buy the root from the store.

We have Turmeric growing in our herb garden, so we harvested ours now. The Turmeric roots are ready to harvest when the leaves turn brown and look like they have died. The leaves will wilt, but the roots will not die. You can leave the roots in the ground, and they will come back the next spring. The Turmeric plant will also continue to propagate itself with new rooters every year, if you do not harvest them.

Picture group two has four pictures. The first picture is of the plants after they have died back for the winter and the leaves are dead and brown. The next two pictures are of the top of the rooter coming out of the ground. The last picture is of a Turmeric tuber dug out of the ground being held in a hand.
