With the holiday season coming up on us, we wanted to give you something to think about. This is not our usual, how-to, DIY talk. Today, we want you to think about What are you Thankful for this week?
1. Stop and Think
What are You Thankful for This Week?
How often do you stop and note all the things you are Thankful for or any of the things you are Thankful for? In your busy day, you may not have stopped to actually think about things like this. But it may do you good to do so.
Stop for just a few minutes and think about your day, your week, your month, or your year. What are you thankful for? It can be huge things like getting a better job or a new house. It could be small things like your got a gift card or your found something that you had misplaced.
You could be Thankful for something that did not happen like your cat did not puke in your shoe this morning.
Yes, that has happened to all Pet Parents at one time or another, we understand your pain.
2. Write it down or list things in your head
What are You Thankful for This Week?
You do not have to write things down but it may help you to write them out so you can see them on paper. Somethings just seeing it laid out in front of you, will make it more real. Actually, seeing it not just “knowing in the back of your mind” about it can make things more clear.
After a long week at work, fighting traffic, running the kids around to all their “social events”, making dinner, cleaning the house, and whatever else you do all week, you just do not have the time to “ponder life”, as they say.
But taking a few minutes to think over your life and take note of things in your life that you do have and things in your life that are good may be therapeutic for you.
3. Know that some things have gone right. So, What are You Thankful for This Week?
Everyone needs to know that something has gone right for them, even if it is only that they did get to work on time. Or that you did get the kids to school on time and that all of them had shoes on.
It can be the small things that add up to bigger results or it can be one really big great thing. You will not really know how blessed you are and what you have to be Thankful for if you do not stop and look at your life.
And yes, it can be small, silly things. Thankful does not have to be big and heavy. It can just be something that made you happy or made you laugh or just makes you smile.
4. Farmer List of Things to Be Thankful for This Week
We did a quick list of things during the week.
As you can see, we farmers are pretty simple when it comes to being Thankful. We live on a family farm, we grow our own food, and we work out in the fresh air and sunshine most days.
We have good family, who we love, and most of the time, we even like them. Our kids are healthy as are most of our pets, the senior pets are iffy.
So we have much to be thankful for. But again, it does not have to be only the big picture, look at the small picture too.
Here is our Thankful for this week’s list.
Everyday:
Coffee, Family, and Home.
Monday:
With overcast skies, it was cooler and easier to work in the pasture than the usual August weather.
Tuesday:
Thankful that the older family members are slowing down, so the younger ones can keep up with them when putting up the fence for the new cow pasture.
Wednesday:
Thankfully there were other things that needed doing on the farm so we did not work on the new cow pasture fence for the third day in a row.
Thursday:
It rained so no working on the new cow pasture.
Friday:
The ground was wet so it was easier to pull weeds out of the garden. The weeds, you know the ones that grew so well after the last rain.
Saturday:
Three sides of the new cow pasture are done. Only one side left to go.
Sunday:
A down-to-earth preacher who is easy to understand and talks to you like you are an actual person. Healthy family, good Sunday dinner.
It may seem like a silly thing but try it out. It only takes a few minutes a day to think of a couple of things that you are thankful for. Or you can think back on the day and note a few things that you were thankful for that day. You may even want to be thankful for a few things that did not happen that day or that week.
5. Be Thankful for What You Have or What You Do Not Have
People too often do not take the time to think about things that they are thankful to have or things that they are thankful for that they do not have.
Did someone close to you get over an illness, or has no one close to your gotten sick? Both are things to be Thankful for. Did your car get you to work? Did your kids not mess up their new clothes before church?
All of these things are things to be Thankful for, even if they seem silly or just normal. Normal is good, a “normal life” is something to be Thankful for in many people’s cases. Not everyone can say they live a normal life, be Thankful if you do.
So stop for just a few minutes, think things over, and make yourself a list. The list can be in your head, on your iPad, or on paper. Think of things that you are Thankful for this week and then appreciate those things. Having is nothing if things are not appreciated.
We hope you will take this talk to heart and take note of all the things you have or do not have that you can be Thankful for this week.
Thank you for visiting and please come again for another edition of Out Standing in the Field.
