Last week we did a Thanksgiving Pet Treat Recipe. This week we are giving you another recipe.  This is a family Thanksgiving favorite, the Thanksgiving Dorito Salad recipe.

We know, it sounds odd but it is really great. This Thanksgiving Dorito Salad is also pretty simple to make for last-minute holiday eating.

Please note, you can put anything you want to in your Dorito Salad. Mix and match whatever beans, greens, cheese, meats, and nuts you want to make it your own unique blend.

Ingredients list for our family Thanksgiving Dorito Salad:

spinach or spring mix greens
tomatoes
black beans
kidney beans
chickpeas
water chestnuts or sunchokes
bacon bits
cheese (several kinds)
olives black and green
almonds
pecans

We start with the larger items like the greens, tomatoes, and beans on the bottom.

Simple mix all the ingrediants that you want into a large bowl. We put all of our ingrediants into an empty ice cream bucket. That way you can put the lid on and give it a good shake.

Then start the second layer, the extras.

Then the toppings go no before the salad dressing.

It does not really matter what order you use your ingrediants in. Simply mix all the ingrediants that you want into a large bowl. We put all of our ingrediants into an empty ice cream bucket. That way you can put the lid on and give it a good shake.

When you have your salad all mix, put it into the fridge to chill.

To serve:
crumble up a handful of chips into the bottom of a bowl.

Put a good helping of salad mix into the bowl, on top of the chips.

Top with whatever salad dressing or oil each person prefers and enjoy.

This recipe can be altered to fit anyone’s personal likes and to omit anything that they do not like.

Sometimes, depending on how many people are coming and who, we will not mix all the ingrediants. We set out all the materials in a buffet-type line and everyone can make it as they want it. This keeps some of the picky people from complaining about olives or nuts or whatever. This also allows each person to customize their meal and their helping size. The buffet-style also makes sure no one gets ahold of a food they should not have when they are allergic.

Again, this is a quick and easy recipe that is totally customizable. But it has a very cool look, with different colors, textures, and the Dorito crunch. You can use real Doritos for added cheese flavor. Or you can use tortilla chips or even Fritos, whatever chip you like.

We hope you and your family will try out this recipe, it is one of our family’s favorites.
