We discovered some time ago that not everyone likes oatmeal in their cookies. Imagine that. We have a family recipe for Cowboy Cookies from our Grandmother and that is the cookies we make most often. But now that we have someone that does not like oatmeal, we had to reconsider our cookie-making. So we now have an Easy Chocolate Chip Sugar Cookie Recipe.
This recipe was the original Mimi’s Famous Cowboy Cookie recipe and was just tweaked to fit our cookie needs. Possibly “invented” from the Cowboy Cookie recipe is the right term. Anyway, here is today’s talk, a step-by-step on how to make Easy Chocolate Chip Sugar Cookies.
To make your Easy Chocolate Chip Sugar Cookie Recipe you will need:
1 cup Crisco
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
3 cups of flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon Vanilla
1 package of chocolate chips
cookie sheets
parchment paper
a way to mix, by hand or with a mixer
This can be done by hand but an electric mixer makes things go so much easier and faster.
Steps to make Easy Chocolate Chip Sugar Cookies:
1. Cream the Crisco, the regular sugar, and brown sugar.
2. Add the eggs and again mix well.
3. Add the Vanilla and mix.
4. In a bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, salt, and baking powder.
5. Add the dry mix to the creamed mix. Make sure to scrape the sides of the mixer to get all the goodie.
6. Add the chips. Mix well but do not beat the chocolate chip into a paste. Yes, that can happen if you over-mix in an electric mixer.
Please note, something went wrong with our picture taking and we took no pictures for any of steps 1 through 5.
7. Make your cookie shapes. Roll by hand and flatten or roll out and use a cookie cutter.
We use the drop method for most of our cookies.
8. Place the cookies on the tray. Either grease the cookie tray or place parchment paper on it.
9. Place the trays in the oven. Cook at 325 for approx 15 minutes.
As with most cookie recipes, you can cook them to your specific liking. If you want soft and chewy, or crisp just adjust the cooking time.
10. Let the cookies cool on a wire rack. The cookies will harden a bit while they cool.
That is all it takes to have fresh, homemade chocolate sugar cookies. You can whip up a batch in an hour, or less if you do it often and have a routine.
A chocolate chip sugar cookie and a cup of coffee will do wonders for you after a long day at work.
These Chocolate Chip Sugar Cookies are light but have a wonderful chocolate taste. If you are concerned about sugar or gluten, you can alter the ingredients to leave those things out. Just make sure you keep the ratios the same.
We hope you have enjoyed this talk on our Easy Chocolate Chip Sugar Cookie Recipe. Try them out for yourself and see how easy and tasty they really are.
