Here is another Summer Dessert Recipe in our series. This is an easy one that can be made just to your individual liking.  We give you the Chocolate Mug Cake in Under 10 Minutes in the microwave recipe.

If you are like us, sometimes you just “need” chocolate. And chocolate cake specifically. After a long day at work, in our case on the farm, who has time or energy to make a cake?

Well, we have the solution for you. Today we are sharing a dangerously quick and easy recipe.  Chocolate Mug Cake in under 10 minutes and in the microwave.

You will need to pick out a coffee cup, approx 30 seconds.

You will need to pull out the ingredients and measure them out, approx 2 minutes.

You will have to combine and mix the ingredients, approx 3 minutes.

This recipe has an added advantage of being microwave friendly. So to cook in the microwave, approx 4 minutes.

In total, you are less than 10 minutes from a fresh, hot, chocolate cake.

You will need:

1 large coffee cup

4 Tablespoons flour

4 Tablespoons sugar

2 Tablespoons cocoa

1 egg

3 Tablespoons milk

3 Tablespoons oil

splash of vanilla (optional)

3 Tablespoons chocolate chips (optional)

We find it easier to mix the dry ingredients in the mug and the wet ingredients in a separate bowl.

Put your flour into the mug.

Add the sugar to the mug.

Add the cocoa to the mug.

The recipe calls for 2 Tablespoons but that gives you a very chocolate cake, If you want a bit less rich chocolate, you can use just 1 Tablespoon of cocoa. We normally just do 1 Tablespoon, 2 Tablespoons is just too much for a coffee cup-sized cake.

In a separate bowl pour in the milk.

Add the oil to the milk.

Add the egg to the milk and oil.  Beat well. Be careful not to sling the wet ingredients out of the bowl with the beating.

Take the wet ingredients and bump them into the dry ingredients already in the mug.

Mix all ingredients in the mug.

Again, do not sling the mix out of the mug. Yes, we have done that and it makes a mess and leaves stuff all over the outside of your mug. If this happens, clean off the outside of the mug before putting it into the microwave.

Once you have a smooth mix, you can add the chocolate chips and mix a bit more. You do not have to add the chocolate chip if you do not want them. Sometimes we use chips, sometimes we do not. It all depends on what mood everyone is in.

Put the mug in the microwave and cook for 3 to 4 minutes. Time depends on the strength of the microwave.

Note: the cake will rise a good bit in the microwave. Be sure you use a large enough coffee cup or the mix will rise over the top of the mug and out into the microwave. If you do have an overspill, stop the microwave and clean it up. Do not keep cooking or you will have chocolate cement in your microwave. It is hard to get out once it is cooked and cooled.

Let the cake cool a few minutes after microwaving.

The cake will be a little crisper around the sides than a normal cake. It will also be a bit chewier and a slight bit softer. None of these differences hurt the taste at all.

Then top with ice cream, whipped cream, caramel, or whatever your favorite topping is.

Add more chocolate chips or eat it straight.

Now eat and enjoy.

This recipe said each mug is one serving but we usually share as we can not eat a whole chocolate mug cake in one sitting.

This recipe is a nice, quick way to handle that chocolate craving any time day or night. It can be a bit dangerous now that we can make a chocolate cake at any time and in only 5 minutes or so. But it is worth the risk.

This is by no means a healthy or low-fat chocolate cake so keep that in mind when deciding how often to have one.

Another great thing about this recipe is that you can tweak it to your personal liking. If you want a vanilla cake, just omit the cocoa powder. If you do not want chips, leave them out. You may want to add strawberries or some other fruit. The possibilities are ended only by your imagination.

This is a kid-friendly recipe so get the kids involved. This is a good way to teach the kids measuring and other cooking know-how.

What if you need more than one mug  cake? That is not a problem. Line up the number of coffee cups that you will need for the number of cakes that you need.

Now just go assembly-line style. Add each ingredient to each mug. You may want to have several bowls for the wet ingredients. But, we know from experience, you can just dump all the ingredients, wet and dry into the mug at one time.

Doing this way does make the mixing a bit harder but if you are careful, or just go ahead and mix over the kitchen sink, you should be good.

We have done this many times. This is great for family get-togethers, last-minute eatings, and unexpected guests.

We hope you have enjoyed this recipe for Chocolate Mug Cake in Under 10 Minutes in the microwave. Try it out for yourself and see how good it is.
