With our Summer Dessert Recipe Series, last week we offered a recipe for Summer Frozen Dog Treats. This week we have another easy recipe for pet lovers, the Quick 4 Ingredient Dog Cookie.

These cookies are easy to make with healthy ingredients. If a cookie, dessert treat can be good for your pet, this is very close.

You will need:

2 cups of quick oats

1 cup of peanut butter homemade or store-bought

2 cups of sweet potato mash or pumpkin mash

3 cups flour regular, wheat, or coconut

For this recipe, we used coconut flour. We were trying out coconut flour as we had not used it before.

Coconut flour seems to behave just like regular flour so no need to make any changes to the recipe.

This can be done by hand, but an electric mixer makes it much easier and faster.

In the mixing bowl put your flour and oats together and mix well.

Add the peanut butter to the dry mix. Mix until blended.

Add the sweet potato mash and mix well.

This mix will give you a bit of a grainy mix that will need to be mashed together into the shape you want.

We used the traditional “mashed flat by hand” cookie. But you can use a cookie cutter or make balls if you want.

Lay the cookies out on a baking tray covered with parchment paper.

Place in the oven and bake at 350 for approx 20 minutes. Bake a bit longer if you want crispy, bake a bit less if you want the cookies to be chewier.

Take the cookies out of the oven and let them cool completely before offering a cookie to the designated food tester.

It is best to keep these cookies in a closed tin and up on a high shelf. We have had cookies get soggy when left out in the open air.

We have also had cookies go missing when left on too low a table.

Now when your pet is ready for a treat, you have a healthy alternative to store-bought “dog bones”. As this is a quick recipe, you could make a batch every few days if need be.

Our dogs love these treats and will take them over the store-bought ones every time.

Your cats will take them but ask why you did not spring for the expensive ones.

Although our cats seem to like these cookies, as well as the dogs, do.

We hope you have enjoyed this Quick 4 Ingredient Dog Cookie Recipe. Your dogs will love them and thank you for making them.
