This is the third of our Pet Treats in the Summer Dessert Recipe Series. This recipe is for Easy, Healthy Pasture Pet Treats.

As with most of our recipes and DIY projects, we like the quick, simple recipes that are healthy for our pets.

This recipe is great for using all of those extra summer garden veg.

In case, “Pasture Pet” is not clear. These are the goats, donkeys, horses, and sometimes chickens that are on here on the farm.

To make: Easy, Healthy Pasture Pet Treats

You will need:

a large mixing bowl

a large dish or tray

1 Carrot

1 Apple

1 cup Molasses

2 1/2 cups qats

2 Tablespoons Oil

You can easily enough mix this recipe by hand.

But you can use an electric mixer if you like.

This is not hard mixing.

Mix well after adding each ingredient

Shred the carrots. Or you can use scrapes left over from other cooking projects. Add to the large bowl and mix.

Shred the apples. Or you can use apple scraps left over from other cooking projects. Add to the large bowl and mix.

You can also add other fruits and veg or scrapes to customize this recipe. Just check to be sure that the fruit or veg you want to use is pet safe. Not all fruits and veg are safe for pets to eat.

Add the oil.

Add the oats.

Add the molasses.

Continue to stir to mix until all the oats, carrots, and apples are coated with oil and molasses.

Be sure to spray or oil your baking dish or tray.

Pour the mix into the dish.

Press the mix into the dish to get it spread out and flattened down.

You can make these treats thicker like cookies or thinner as you choose.

With a knife, make lines in the treats. This will be how you break up the pieces after baking. Think of it like perforated paper. Once the treats are cooked and cooled you can just snap the pieces apart.

Put the dish into the oven. Bake at 400 for approx 45 minutes. You want the treats to be crispy.

Remove from the oven and let cool.

The treats will harden up as they cool.

Once the treat is cool enough to handle, snap the pieces apart. If the pieces do not come out perfect do not worry the pets will like them no matter what shape they are in.

Let the treats cool completely before offering them to your pets.

As with most homemade treats, you should keep these treats in an air-tight container. That is if they last long enough to need to store them.

Now you have healthy, homemade treats ready for your pets.

We have several “pasture ornaments”. The goats, donkeys, and horses are no longer working farm animals. Most of ours now are rescues that are retired. Our “pasture ornaments” just hang around and eat. So they love to be petted and to get treats.

Even the chickens love these treats.

As you can see we have horse size treats, goat-sized treats, dogs-sized treats, and the crumble left for the cats and ferrets.

Yes, this is usually a thing. Not all the pieces will come out intact. We normally have smaller pieces and some crumble after we finish breaking out the larger treats.

All of our pets, goats, donkeys, horses, cats, ferrets, and dogs love these treats. We like that they are healthy for our pets. It is a good thing that these treats are so quick to make. We can make a batch in less than 2 hours.

This recipe is also kid-friendly, so get the kids involved with the measuring and mixing.

And yes, all the ingredients are food-grade so the kids can sample these treats if they want to.

We hope you have enjoyed this Pet Summer Dessert Recipe for Easy, Healthy Pasture Pet Treats. Try making some of these treats for your pets and see how it goes. We bet your pets will love them too.
