In some of our talks, we use comfrey infuses oil as one of the main ingredients. We noted that it might be good to give this process its’ own talk. So today we will give you the 3 ways to make your own comfrey infused olive oil.

Two of the processes are very similar, requiring olive oil and fresh comfrey leaves. The third process is much faster, using olive oil and comfrey essential oil. In the talk we did on making your own DIY Black Drawing salve, we used process #2. In the talk on large farm animal fly repellent, we used process# 3. All 3 ways seem to get the correct results, time is the only difference.
Process one, slow method, for making your herb-infused oil: you will need fresh comfrey leaves and olive oil.
put all of your herbs into a mason jar, add the olive oil, seal, and wait. You will need to let it sit for 2 to 3 weeks and give it a good shake every day. After 2 to 3 weeks, strain out the herbs and keep the oil. This is what you will use for making DIY projects.
Process two, fast method, for making herb-infused oil: you will need fresh comfrey leaves and olive oil.
place your oil and herbs in a mason jar. Using the hot bath method, like with canning, you put the jar into a pot of water and heat it, not to boiling, for 4hrs or so. Let it sit overnight and then strain out herbs. Keep the oil as this is what you will use to make your DIY projects.
We did not have any pics for processes 1 and 2 as we have not made comfrey oil in some time. When we do make comfrey oil, we make a large bottle so we do not have to make it often.
We were out at this point so we went with process 3 to make our comfrey oil quickly.
Process 3, really fast: you will need olive oil and comfrey essential oil.
you buy the comfrey essential oil. You use 2 cups of olive oil. Put the olive oil in a pot on the stovetop and heat. Add 2 tablespoons of comfrey essential oil to the olive oil. Do not allow to boil. Just heat and stir enough to blend the oils. Take the oil off the stove and allow it to cool. Once cool, put your new comfrey oil into an airtight container. It may seem like a quick cheat but if you are in a rush and have not had time to do process 1 or 2, this will do it.
We have a couple of Essential Oil companies that we use but StarWest Botanicals is one of our favorites. They offer high-quality essential oils as well as other fine natural products.
With any of these methods, the longer you leave the final product to sit before using it, the better. But as we do not always have the ability to think ahead and know we will need comfrey oil, you can use method 3 quickly. As self-sufficient DIY lovers, we would prefer method 1 or 2 as we can do it all on our own. But again, sometimes, time and need will not allow long waits.
We hope this talk has helped you with your comfrey oil infusion. Please try one or all 3 for yourself and see which you think works best.
