Sometimes you want a long soak with all the bells and whistles and sometimes you just want a moment of me time. As we have told you in previous talks, we make bath salts and bath bombs.
Recently we found a cool Halloween decoration that inspired us to make our new version of bath time with Bath Dust. The Halloween decoration was a glass bottle with black sand, glitter, and a label that said Nightmares.
We decided to go a bit more happy with our bath dust using the bath bomb recipe and added activated charcoal. Adding StarWest lavender essential oils and silver Today Glitter, we had the makings of some real fun.
The result is a neat-looking gray dust with silver glitter and a nice lavender scent. But once you put it in the bath water, the real fun begins. The dust reacts with the hot water just like bath bombs do. It makes for a really cool, black, glittering, bubbling display.
But the best part is when you first mix the dust into the bath water, it smokes. It was awesome. You have a relaxing bath with a slight Gothic twist. We are calling it Lavender Dreams -Halloween Smoking Glittery Bath Dust.
This bath dust is basically a bath bomb that is not pressed into a mold. It is mixed and left in the powdered form and used just like that.
And of course you can make it any way you want it. Since we discovered the Today Bio-Glitter, we have found many cool uses for it. Things that we normally just make plane, have taken on a whole new “sparkley life”. Everything now has to have a color, glitter and essential oils to make it the best version we can get. The kids are loving the colors, glitter and scents.
To make your own Lavender Dreams -Halloween Smoking Glittery Bath Dust you will need:
2 cups baking soda
1 cup corn starch
1 cup citric acid
1 cup Epsom salt or mineral salt of your choice
15-20 drops of essential oils of your choice
10 capsules of activated charcoal
Your color choice of Today Glitter
With the charcoal, if you use capsules, open them to use the powder but handle them carefully or you will have a black mess everywhere. You can buy charcoal in loose dust also. Either way, do not let your powdered charcoal get out of hand.
When it comes to glitter, only use Today Bio-Glitter as regular glitter is made of plastic and is not eco-friendly or user-friendly.
To make Lavender Dreams -Halloween Smoking Glittery Bath Dust the process is simple.
Mix all of your dry ingredients: baking soda, corn starch, citric acid, Epsom salts, Today Glitter, and activated charcoal. We used a whisk to mix ours but be careful not to mix too vigorously or the powder will get everywhere (we know, we did).
If you are sensitive to baking soda, you can use a bit less or substitute the baking soda for Arrow Root Powder.
Mix your essential oils into your dry, slowly a few drops at a time, whisking to mix.
We used lavender essential oils as we wanted a soothing, relaxing scent.
Put your bath dust into a sealed container to keep it til bath time. Be sure to keep it in a cool dry place.
And there you have your own Lavender Dreams -Halloween Smoking Glittery Bath Dust.
You can see the cool layers of gray, black, and glitter.
To use your And there you have your own Lavender Dreams -Halloween Smoking Glittery Bath Dust simply sprinkle into your hot bath water.
To get the most out of the black bubble and smoke, you will need to run the water first, let the water sit until still, and then add the Lavender Dreams -Halloween Smoking Glittery Bath Dust. This will let you see the dust “smoke up”. If you sprinkle your bath dust into the running water, you will not be able to see much of a smoke to it.
Of course, this Lavender Dreams -Halloween Smoking Glittery Bath Dust recipe is a great, calming, soothing soak no matter if you want black smoke and bubbles or not.
This is a simple recipe that can be tweaked to your liking.
If you are not going for black bubbles, and cool black smoke do not use the activated charcoal.
Once the bubbles and smoke have passed, there is still the black, glittery, bath. Of course, depending on how much dust you use, your bath will be more or less colored and glittery.
Once the bubbles and smoke have passed, there is still the black, glittery, bath. Of course, depending on how much dust you use, your bath will be more or less colored and glittery. This is just a little bit to test out the reaction and see the end product.
If you want to spruce things up a bit add some theme accents and cool bottles.
You can split it up into several cool bottles. And of course, you can decorate the bottles for different themes. This is also a super cute gift idea. A bit of ribbon, some theme labels, and the right color and glitter and you can make gifts for any occasion.
We put ours into a nifty, little bottle with a cork topper, to give it a vintage, science test tube look.
Other Ideas:
Red, white, and blue for your patriotic side
Red glitter and peppermint for Christmas
Green glitter for St. Patrick’s Day
red or pink glitter and a dash of coco for Valentine
The possibilities are only limited by your imagination
