As I have said several times before, we are always looking for new things to try out. We like our DIY projects to be quick and easy projects that can be done with the family, not too many resources, and on the inexpensive side. Here is another quick, easy project, the homemade soap bar scrubby. Yes, you can buy them in the store but they are pricey. If you make them at home you have the pride of having made handmade items and those items are for practical use.

If you are a solid bar soap fan then you are maybe on the lookout for a better way to control it. You know how it is, you get your soap all wet and sudsy but then it comes to life and seems to have a mind of its own. It can be hard to keep a handle on a wet soap bar. Well here is the perfect project for you, the soap scrubby. You can make your own scrubby with only a couple parts and a tiny bit of sewing. You can sew these by hand but a machine makes the job quicker. Kids can help with this project but an adult should handle the cutting and sewing.

Pick out the colors or patterns of the washcloth. Then match up the wash clothes to the color or patterns of ribbon. You can get very creative here with any color or pattern of washcloth or ribbon you want. There are all kinds of cute ribbons out there to make your scrubby any theme you want. You can do dogs, cats, trees, cars, baby stuff, and just about any other theme you can imagine. You can do kid themes, woman themes, pet themes, and even man themes, there are endless possibilities. You can use patterned wash clothes also for more variety but solid colors are easier to match up with patterned ribbon. Kids enjoy helping pick up the colors and ribbons. With just a bit of planning, you can have a great set of Christmas or Birthday gifts, themed with a special person in mind.

Remember when making your scrubby, you can make it any way you like it. You can add a pull string or leave the top open. You can use the patterned wash clothes and plain ribbon or the other way around. It is all up to you as to how fancy or simple you want your scrubby to be.

Soap bar scrubbies: step by step

1. lay out your pieces, one washcloth, and one strip of ribbon or lace to your liking. Make sure you measure the ribbon to reach all 4 sides of the washcloth.

2. fold your washcloth in half and cut down the center. You now have 2 pieces about the same size, depending on how straight you cut.

3. place the ribbon on the top of the cloth in the position you want. You can leave a border space a the top or have it flush with the cloth seam, your choice.

4. sew the ribbon to the cloth in a straight seam.

5. fold the cloth in half again, matching up the ribbon seams to the top. This gives you the open top with the ribbon, 2 open sides, and the folded side that is closed.

6. sew the remaining 2 open sides. Do not sew the ribbon side closed, that is the open top.

7. sew the 2 ends of the ribbon onto the clothes side seam to make a loop. This loop will be the scrubby hanger. This lets you hang up the soap bar inside the scrubby to air dry out, extends the life of the soap, and keeps it from getting soggy. And who wants gooey soap?

There you have your very own, hand made to your liking, soap scrubby. Now you just slip your favorite soap bar into your scrubby and you are ready to be in charge of your next bath time.

These scrubbers are very handy for travel or everyday home use. The soft but fluffy washcloth gives your skin a good scrub without taking skin layers off. You can use scrubys for face bars as well as body bars or even shampoo bars. Just wet and scrub away, the soap inside will lather up and the scrubby will give your skin a good massage and cleaning. These scrubbers are also good for pet washing, they are easier to use on short hair pets. Your dog or horse will love the message that goes along with the bath.
