1. Advantages of DIY safe, healthy, gel air fresheners:
No nasty, chemicals. You make it yourself so you know what is in it. There are no chemical leftovers floating in your air like with commercially made, chemical air fresheners. There is no potentially toxic smoke or micro-particles leftover from the burning of commercially made candles.
2. Safe, Healthy, Gel Air Fresheners are low content made from natural ingredients
These safe, healthy, gel air fresheners are made with natural ingredients that you may already have in your home. Each of the ingredients in these gel air fresheners is kid, pet, and environmentally safe so do not worry about someone “getting into” these gel air fresheners.
This is a quick recipe that only uses 5 or 6 ingredients. Essential oils are great for cleaning the air as well as giving off delicious scents. Any ingredients that you do not have on hand are normal, everyday items that you can find in just about any store. So easy to access ingredients to boot.
3. Make your safe, healthy, gel air freshener just the way you like it
Totally tailor-able to your exact needs or wants.
These simple gel air fresheners can be made to your liking with colors, scents, and themes of your choice.
All you have to do is change the scent and the color and you can tailor these gel air fresheners to any theme or holiday you want.
Mix and match the essential oils you like to make your own personal scent.
Put them into cute, seasonal jars or tins to give them the right theme.
4. Ways to use or gift DIY safe, healthy, gel air freshener
These DIY gel air fresheners can be used as gifts to others. They make great gifts for Christmas, Birthdays, Weddings, and any such gift-giving occasion.
Use them in your own house. Admit it, we have all had days when our house was not minty fresh. Well, you can now handle that with your own DIY gel air freshener.
They also make great table accents for Thanksgiving, Church functions, Showers, family get-togethers, and other eating meetings.
Give a safe, healthy, gel air freshener to your favorite teacher, or your kid’s favorite teacher.
In our experience, teachers love essential oils. We give gel air fresheners, bath salts, and hand sanitizer to the teachers every year. The essential oil in these products not only helps the room smell good but some essential oil actually helps clean the air. Both of these things are good for school classrooms.
5. How to make your own DIY safe, healthy, gel air freshener.
This is a simple recipe with only six steps
Ingredients:
A. pot to boil on the stovetop
B. clean jars or tins
C. 1 cup of water
D. ¼ cup water for later
E. 2 packages of Knox Jello (2 Tablespoons)
this is the unflavored, non-sweetened, plain stuff
F. ¼ cup of vodka (ok not everyone will have vodka on hand) You can use regular alcohol or any other clean alcohol if you need to substitute.
G. Essential oils of your choice.
H. Food coloring (optional)
Steps to making your own DIY safe, healthy, gel air freshener
1. On the stove top, in whatever pot you are using:
Take the 1 cup of water and bring it to a light boil
2. Gently stir the 2 packages or Know Jello into the boiling water. It is good to note as this point, we pour our jello into a small bowl first. This makes it easier to sprinkle into the boiling water. And we use a whisk to mix it as we go.
If you dump the whole 2 packages into the boiling water and then try to mix, you will have a gummy mess at the bottom of your pot. This does not work well, we know, we did this on our first try.
Once the Knox Jello is totally dissolved in the water, remove the pot from the heat and turn off the stovetop. This is also important, sometimes this can be forgotten and it comes as a shock to the next person in the kitchen, that the stove is still on and hot.
3. Let the mix cool just a bit. Then stir in the ¼ cup of vodka and the second ¼ cup of water. Stir well to mix.
You can let this mix sit just a bit while you prep the next part. Or if you have a second set of hands in the kitchen, they can do the next part while you do this mixing.
4. Put 10 to 12 drops of your chosen essential oils into the jar or bowl. Add 1 to 2 drops of food coloring of your choice. Logically the more food coloring you add the darker your finished gel air freshener will be.
We have a couple of Essential Oil companies that we use but StarWest Botanicals is one of our favorites. They offer high-quality essential oils as well as other fine natural products.
When you are ready to add the essential oil and food coloring it is best to have them already mixed in another container.
You can add the essential oils and food coloring to the container you are using for your finished product. Or you can mix them in another small bowl.
We just put our essential oil and food coloring into the end jar or tin so we do not have to mess up and clean up and another dish.
5. Pour your Know Jello/water/vodka mix into the jars or tins you have ready. If you already put the essential oils and food coloring into the jars, they will mix with the Jello mixture just from the pouring.
If you have the essential oils and food coloring separate, add them now and mix gently.
Be sure to leave a little space at the top of the jar so the lid will fit on and seal.
6. Leave the gel air fresheners out to cool for a little while. You do not want to put the lid on while the mixture is still hot. Once it has cooled to where you can handle them, put the lids on your gel air fresheners.
And there, you have made your own DIY gel air fresheners. Depending on the essential oils and food coloring you added, you now have a cool seasonal, or holiday-themed gel air freshener.
When you are ready to use them, just remove the lid and let out all of those wonderful essential oils.
In case you do not know how this works. When you take the lids off the gel is exposed to the open air. The air will slowly dry out the jello, which will release the essential oils and their wonderful smells. This is how it freshens the air.
When you are done just put the lids back on and the gel air fresheners will keep until you take the lid off again. If you do not have a lid for your container, you can use plastic wrap, Bee’s Wrap or dog food can cover. Anything will do as long as it seals so the jello and essential oils do not evaporate.
It is best to keep them out of direct sun, and heat. Sun and heat will break down the essential oils and melts the jello.
