1. What do you do with all those empty paper rolls?

We all have empty toilet paper rolls, paper towel rolls, and even gift wrapping paper rolls. And what do we do with all of them? Most people throw them away. This not only adds to the trash dump but is also wasteful. As you know from our other talks, we do our best to recycle, reuse, upscale and re-purpose everything we can. And yes, this included empty paper rolls of all kinds.

There are lots of things you can do with empty toilet paper rolls. You can use them in the garden to plant seeds or as mulch. Empty paper rolls are great for making your own DIY fire starter tubes. Paper rolls can be used to make a secret hiding spot for keys or such. These are only a few things that come to mind quickly but if you think about it a bit, we are sure you can add to this list.

2. Craft Ideas

So many things can be made out of paper rolls when it comes to crafts. There are bracelets for small arms, stand-up dolls to paint, pencil holders, and so much more.

We are sure there are other ways to reuse paper rolls but today we are talking about using them in Christmas gift crafting. We are going to show you how to make a Christmas crafty gift wrap from empty paper rolls.

We realize this may seem odd but truly, empty paper rolls make great gift wraps.

3. A Christmas Gift Wrap and the supplies you will need

As with most DIY projects you can make your Christmas Crafty Gift Wrap as simple or elaborate as you want.

All you need is a few empty paper rolls, some ribbon, and some paper. You can always add in some glitter, charms, paint, or whatever suits your fancy.

We will show you how to make a simple, straightforward Christmas Crafty Gift Wrap by recycling empty paper rolls.

It is best to check your paper roll to be sure your paper rolls are clean and dry. You do not want to have to pull paper rolls out of the trash.

We have a special box that all paper rolls go into once they are empty. This way the roll stays clean, dry, and not squashed. The rolls stay in good shape and wait for a project to come along where they are needed.

A.

So, you have the empty paper roll. It is good to note a paper towel roll will do but you may need to cut it to size depending on the project you have working on.

B.

The gift that goes inside the wrap. This is the important part. After all, what is a gift wrap without a gift inside?

Unless the point is to have nothing in the wrap like a “white elephant gift” thing. Of course, the size of the gift will have to actually have to fit the roll size. But do not let the size deter you, as we said, you can use paper towel rolls or even empty wrapping paper rolls if you need a bigger gift wrap.

C.

Choose some kind of paper. It could be Christmas as that is what we are doing today. But do not think that this DIY project is only suitable for Christmas. You can use these crafty gift wraps year-round for whatever season or event you have at hand.

D.

Pick out the ribbon you will tie the wrap with. Again, today is a Christmas theme but you can use any theme or color you like. If you are doing a more rustic look, you can go with twine. For a military, survival, or extreme sports theme, a paracord would be a nice touch.

E.

Add any additional bling you want. The list here is endless, only shortened by your imagination and space in the wrap. Add glitter to the inside for an extra splash of bling or add a charm to the ribbon that will match the gift theme. Using multiple layers of paper to cover the paper roll is another way to add some color and fun. There are just so many options, make it the way you want it.

These crafty gift wraps end up looking like old-fashioned party poppers but they will not break open when pulled. Also, those old-fashioned party poppers are made with much more delicate paper and designed to break apart in the middle when pulled at the ends.

First, fold in the sides of one end to make a closed bottom.

Second, slid the gift inside the wrap.

Today, the part of “the gift” will be played by the Christmas Dog Ornament.

If it is a delicate gift, like glass, you may want to give it a layer of tissue paper. Or if the item is small and may knock around inside the wrap, again a layer of tissue paper may be required.

If you are going to add glitter to the inside of the wrapped tube, now is the time. If not just go on with the next step. The glitter can be added between the tube and the wrapping paper. If you want to make more of a mess and fun.

Third, fold off the other end to keep close off the wrap.

Fourth, cover the wrapped tube with whatever wrapping paper you chose.

Fifth, tie off the ends of the wrapping paper with the ribbon or whatever tie you have in mind to use.

Sixth, here you add any extra bling, such as charms or flowers, to the outside of the gift wrap.

There you have your Christmas Crafty Gift Wrap made from empty paper rolls. It is just that quick and easy to make your own gift wrap. This skill is great to have for those unannounced or last-minute gifting needs.

Yes, the paper roll does limit the size of the gift you can put into it but as they say, the best things come in small packages.

These crafty gift wraps will not pull apart but they can easily be opened at one end so the gift inside will slip out.

This is just another way you can recycle and have a handmade “gift” at the same time.

Do not underestimate the value of handmade items. When you make the gift or the gift wrapping by hand it lets the receiver know you put that little extra bit of love into it.

You can make each wrap something in the colors or themes that is just right for that person. Let them know you care.

So now, go and make your own Christmas Crafty Gift Wrap with your empty paper rolls. See how much fun it can be to make each one special for that individual person. You are only limited by your own imagination so make each one unique.

We hope you have enjoyed this talk and will try your hand at making your own Christmas Crafty Gift Wraps this holiday season, the next birthday or celebration you need a gift for.
