With the last few month’s talks about how to grow your own food supply, we

thought now was a good time for this 4 ingredients DIY miracle grow recipe.

All gardeners know you must give your plants proper sunlight, regular water, and good plant food if you want happy, healthy plants. Fertilizing plants can be a tricky thing. What do you use, how much do you give, where do you get the best kind? Well, every type of plant has its own personal likes and dislikes.

There is an easy, 4 ingredient, DIY miracle grow recipe that will cover most, general plant needs. We use this recipe here on the farm and most of our plants love it.

It is important to note, DO NOT give this recipe to avocado plants. For some reason, the avocado plant does not like this recipe and it will shrivel up and die if you use it on them.

DIY Miracle Grow Recipe

You will need:
a gallon jug
1 gallon of water
1 Tablespoon Epsom Salts
1 teaspoon Baking Soda
1/2 teaspoon Ammonia

This is a quick, easy recipe with 4 ingredients, and is quick to mix up.

We re-use empty plastic jugs for our miracle grow.  As you know from other talks we re-use, recycle, or up-scale everything we can.

Start with a gallon of water. Make sure this is plain water, not chlorinated or distilled or such. As we have a deep rock well on the farm, we have very good water.

We like to fill the water jug halfway, add the rest of the ingredients and then finish filling the jug. This way the water filling will help mix the other ingredients.

Add the 1 Tablespoon of Epsom Salts.

Add 1 teaspoon of Baking Soda.

Add the 1/2 teaspoon Ammonia.

Finish filling the water jug. Make sure the top is secure on the jug, give the jug a good shake.

There you have it, An easy, 4 ingredients, DIY miracle grow for your plants.

Make sure to always label your DIY projects so there is no mix-up or misuse.

Now just store your DIY miracle grow in a cool place and use it when needed. We like to use this recipe at least once a month on our baby plants. It is important to give your baby plants every chance to grow into healthy adults. The more mature plants we use this recipe on less often. This is a great recipe to use when you are re-potting or transplanting to the outdoors.

As it is so easy to mix up and takes almost no time we normally only make one gallon at a time. In the winter when most of the plants are indoors and need hand watering, we use this just about every week. Also, in the spring when we are sprouting new seeds we like to use this recipe.

After the plants are either outdoors for the summer or they are mature adult plants, we do not have to fertilize as often. We prefer to have all our plants outside so they can get natural rainwater, which is best for all plants. But if the plants must be inside, this recipe ensures they get the nutrition that they need.

Again, it is important to note, DO NOT use this recipe on avocado plants, it will kill them dead in no time. We are not sure why avocados do not respond well to this recipe but they don’t. We have unfortunately crippled and even murdered several avocado babies before realizing what the problem was.

We hope you will try this DIY miracle grow recipe for your plants. Either garden veg, fruit and nut trees, or just house plants, give them the love and feed they need.
