If you work outside you know how hard manual labor can be on your hands but winter hands are worse. Here on the farm, we work outside every day. No matter if we are feeding animals, moving hay, weeding the garden, or any number of other daily chores, we use our hands. Winter Hands are worse to us than regular dry skin. We get the really nasty dry, red, swollen, chapped skin along with the cracked, bleeding knuckles, and scabby patches. So we always use a good bit of hand lotions or salves but they just did not do it for us. You can find many recipes that help dry, chapped hands but this one we make ourselves after trying out some others. We combined the parts of other recipes that we liked to come up with a recipe of our own. Another good thing about this recipe is that the ingredients are things that you will likely already have on hand or can easily pick up and any local store. We hope this recipe will help with your “winter hands”.

This Extreme Chapped Hand Salve Recipe is easy to make and a little goes a long way.

You will need:

3 Tbs Beeswax

The Coconut Oil and Shea Butter sooth the dry skin, while the Vitamin E Oil helps heal. The Beeswax seals the skin to keep the moisture in and protect the skin.

To make your Extreme Chapped Hand Salve Recipe:

1. Heat the pot on the stovetop to warm

It does not take much to melt the Beeswax and Shea Butter.

2. Warm the Coconut oil in the pot.

To Use your Extreme Chapped Hand Salve:

Use a very small amount and gently rub in. This recipe gives you a soft salve that will melt quickly on the skin.

This picture shows a finger with a bit of The Extreme Chapped Hand Salve on it. The salve is a light tan, smooth, and creamy.

Note, a little goes a long way, so do not use too much or you will have it everywhere.

It is also best to do a spot test when you are starting to use a new product just to be sure you are not going to have a bad reaction to it. Be sure you do not have an allergy to any of the ingredients. You would not want to slather up both hands, arms, and lips to find out you are allergic to one of the ingredients and you blow up like a ballon.

We have found for very bad “winter hands” it is best to use overnight gloves. If you have not done this before, it can be a bit odd at first but the results are worth it. Start by rubbing the Extreme Chapped Hand Salve into your hands then put on a pair of gloves. The cheap, cotton gloves have done the best for us. Yes, it will make the inside of the gloves gummy but you can always wash the gloves in between used if you like.

We use the regular gloves to wear at night. The fingerless gloves are better if you need to use the salve while working. From experience, we can tell you it is almost impossible to type with bulky gloves on.

Using the overnight glove method will keep the salve on your hands all night and let it soak in better than just doing it and then moving on with your day.

You can, of course, use the salve during the day, just know that it may get on whatever you are working on. And it will wear off as you work or wash your hands throughout the day.

This Extreme Chapped Hand Salve Recipe is safe for kids, although they should be discouraged from eating it. It can be rubbed into pet’s paws pads and noses as well. Again, one should not just eat or lick it too much. The oils are not toxic but it could cause stomach troubles.

On the occasion, when we can not find any chapstick, we have used this salve on our lips as well. It can be used on the whole body but it will leave you oily. Of course, it is for external use only. For “winter hands”, dry skin, chapped lips, and cracked heels this Extreme Chapped Hand Salve Recipe can do wonders. The salve has very little smell or taste but it is oily.

This is the card for The Extreme Chapped Hand Salve Recipe. The title is at the top in bold black. There is an ingredients list, a steps list, and a how to use note.
