We make many things DIY, as they say, home made and hand made. We have been making a foray into bath bombs and they are so much fun. Bath bombs do require a few more ingredients than bath salts and a bit more time to make. But once you get the pattern, it is easy as following the steps.

Bath Bombs are a bit tricky at first but easy enough to get the hang of it. The main thing with bath bombs is not to activate the citric acid. But just like bath salts and shower tabs, they are fun to make, fun to use and easy to personalize to your taste.

As with most DIY personal care items, you can make it to your own taste. You can add any combo of essential oils you like to your unique scent. We use StarWest oils, as we have found them one of the best quality and have been using them for some time.

And if you want the classic white bath bomb, there you are. But if you want a colorful, flashy, party look, Today Glitter is the way to go. Today Glitter is a new eco glitter, a guilt-free bio-glitter to replace the standard plastic glitter that is hurting the planet. Bio-glitter has all the perks of plastic glitter, but it does not hurt the environment. Bio-glitter uses unique cellulose derived from the fibers of eucalyptus trees, which grow fast and are widely available. The plant-based components of Bio-glitter are fully biodegradable in any environment, that is in the presence of heat, water, oxygen, and micro-organisms. It does not contain GMO ingredients, It is safe for the ocean. It is suitable for vegans.

Just like your favorite oils, you can pick the color you want and make your bath bombs as unique as you are. Matching the right scent to the right color will open a whole new world of creative ideas for your bath time. We have tried several methods of making our bath bombs, from simple to the way to much trouble ones. Here is the easiest way we have found to make bath bombs.

Bath Bombs what you will need

2 cups baking soda

1 cup corn starch

1 cup citric acid

1 cup epsom salt or mineral salt of your choice

2 tsp water

5 tsp to 15tsp melted coconut oil or veg oil of your choice, we use a bit more to make it compress better

15 to 20 drops of essential oils again your choice of scents and according to how strong you want it

molds whatever shape you want or have, silicon, tin, plastic

We, in fact make bath tabs as we use mini-cupcake tins and silicon ice trays.

Today Glitter (optional but way fun)

color (optional)

How to:

bowl 1 mix dry baking soda, corn starch, citric acid, salts

add your color choice of bio-glitter and mix well

(how much glitter you use depends on how much sparkle and color you want)

bowl 2 melt coconut oil either on stove top or microwave or coconut oil that is already liquid at room temp

if you use another veg oil in place of coconut no need to melt

add water and essential oils

Add a couple drops of color is you like

Mix the wet into the dry (VERY SLOWLY) too fast will active the citric acid and it will fuzz up. If it gets fuzzy, slow down.

press into molds firmly

let dry a few minutes

gently remove from molds

let set overnight to dry

store in air tight container

note: bombs will get harder over time but this will not effect their use.

As you can see, we split up our  dry mix to make more than one color this time.  Just separate the mix equally into however many colors you are wanting to make.  Use the different color food coloring to make the shades you want.  Then follow the steps.

If you are not into cute shapes or do not want to take the time with molds you can still use the same recipe. Use the above recipe but instead of pressing the mix into a mold or tin, roll it into balls with your hands. You get the same effect just not in a shaped bomb.

With our bath bombs, you can see, we ended up with blue, teal, red and plain white. All were peppermint, tea tree and thieves oil, as those were the essential oils we choose for this time. But you can use any essential oils, single or combo you like.

Let you imagination go and see what great things you can make.

Hope you have enjoyed another quick trip down the DIY lane. Please try these out for yourself, you will  have fun.
